A Bristol based company has been bucking the trend during lockdown, spending the time implementing a store refurbishment. South West Upholstery has been busy revamping its shop on North Street, Southville since it was forced to close in March due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The £65K refurbishment project has increased the showroom size, by removing load-bearing internal walls, opening up the space enabling the company to showcase more of its services.

The company, who specialise in bespoke furniture upholstery and soft furnishings for domestic and commercial clients, will now be in a position to display a wider variety of fabrics, sample projects and has a much larger viewing area. Ryan Ball, Managing Director, South West Upholstery says:

“We can’t wait to throw open the doors and show everyone what we’ve done. We took advantage of the enforced time out due to lockdown to forge ahead with this refurbishment which gives us such a great opportunity to really showcase what we’re able to do.

“Customers are so much more in tune with interiors trends now. There’s a huge appetite for reupholstering vintage or favourite pieces to bring them up to date alongside a trend for one-off bespoke pieces of furniture.”

The team at South West Upholstery are experts at bringing domestic and commercial furniture and upholstery back to life in addition to creating new pieces to order - everything from sofas, chairs, headboards, cushion replacement and pouffes to coach seats, restaurant and bar furniture, caravan, motorhome and boat upholstery and commercial vehicle upholstery.

South West Upholstery is a real family affair having been started by Ryan’s Grandad John in his garden shed in Bishopsworth originally repairing and re-covering seats for buses and coaches. Ryan Ball, who at a young age was already showing signs of entrepreneurial spirit, took the plunge to take on the business full time and learn the trade from his Grandad. The company now employs 11 people and, in addition to the shop on North Street, has a warehouse and workshop on Novers Hill Trading Estate in Bedminster.

The new showroom will also be stocking a range of beautiful, handcrafted homewares from Nkuku so customers will be able to shop for lamps, furniture, lighting, chairs and other pieces to take away.

The new and improved South West Upholstery shop reopens on Tuesday 8th September 2020.
