CONSTRUCTION firms and professionals from across the West Midlands have been celebrated for their contribution to the region's built environment over the past year at the 2023 edition of the Constructing Excellence West Midlands Awards.
The awards were open to all organisations and project teams who have delivered or continue to work on building and civil engineering projects in the West Midlands.
Securing the headline prize of Project of the Year, Kier Construction was recognised for its two-year build of the £97 million Heartlands Treatment Centre in Bordesley Green, Birmingham. The University of Worcester received the Client of the Year award for its ongoing project works. This includes the redevelopment of the former Worcester News building - Berrows House - with complete construction partner Stepnell to create a dedicated healthcare training facility.
Andrew Carpenter, chief executive of Constructing Excellence Midlands, said: "We have presented awards this year to a phenomenal cohort of construction professionals who have demonstrated industry best practice across the West Midlands and shown how we can all benefit from building greener, safer and smarter."
Among the individual award winners was Steve Green, framework bid writer at Bowmer and Kirkland, who received the Achiever of the Year award. Nikita Badesha, chair of the Constructing Excellence-managed G4C group, who was presented with the G4C Future Leader award for her role in helping to create opportunities for young professionals in the construction industry to collectively share knowledge and build their networks.
Multi-disciplinary consultancy Cundall was the recipient of the Integration and Collaborative Working award for its ongoing involvement with the construction of the multi-storey car park for the HS2 Interchange car park in Solihull.
Andrew added: "Collaboration is a fundamental value that underpins Constructing Excellence's purpose as a membership organisation so it is rewarding to see that companies are becoming increasingly engaged with their supply chains and are collectively reaping the benefits of doing so.
"Congratulations to all of this year's award winners and thank you to everyone who submitted entries. We look forward to seeing the impact that these projects will bring to the region and how construction organisations in the West Midlands will continue to prioritise best practice and collaboration."
