Remodelling your kitchen is something you plan for, so it’s essential that you’re well-informed of what’s out there so you can choose wisely. To help you get ahead of the curve, we’ve teamed up with DM Design to tell you about the upcoming kitchen design trends of 2017.

Round and oval shapes

The shapes of your benches and islands is now in question, with 2017 set to promote smooth and rounded worktops. The geometric-style shapes that have been popular in the past still remain, they just have curves and rounded edges incorporated in — think long, drawn-out, angular ovals.

Colourful cabinets

2017 kitchens are going to see a move away from the neutral wooden, white or cream cabinets we’re used to seeing. Instead, you have the opportunity to dip into colour. Choose bright, warm colours such as oranges and yellows, or go to the opposite end of the colour wheel and opt for neutral or icy blues.

Black is the new black

If you’re fortunate enough to be working with a larger space when designing your kitchen, you can try out the new style of black cabinets, or kitchen walls – or both! The choice of black makes a statement, and can look particularly impressive and contemporary in larger spaces.

Don’t have enough space to go for black? Keeping some of the kitchen to monochrome colours – either white or grey – still gives the room a chic look, without being overpowering. Even a feature wall in monochrome will bring the kitchen bang up to date.

Choose a bright accent colour

If you’re a fan of clean white, you can add a 2017 angle to your kitchen by choosing a single accent colour to run throughout. Picking a bright colour – like pink, orange or yellow – helps you to inject some fun into your kitchen, without forcing the colour to overpower it.

Industrial-style finishes

Industrial-style features in kitchens is a design trend that will still remain in 2017. Choose fixtures and appliances with gold, copper or other metallic finishes, and ensure they have a distressed finish for added style. Any industrial-style decoration you can add is a bonus.

DM Design has many design teams situated across the UK, covering areas such as London, the south coast of England and all the surrounding areas, as well as having kitchen showrooms in Edinburgh and across Scotland.
