Site managers working for Halesowen-based homebuilder, Barratt Homes West Midlands, have been commended in a national competition to find the best-run building sites in Britain.
Three Site Managers, James Arrowsmith, Sean Talbot and Jim Rogers, each won the prestigious NHBC (National House-Building Council) Pride in the Job Quality Award for their sites in West Bromwich, Staffordshire and Shropshire respectively.
Barratt Homes West Midlands is part of Barratt Developments PLC, which has this year bagged a total of 79 awards for quality workmanship at its sites across the UK – more than any other major developer in the country.
The Pride in the Job Quality Awards are the most respected in the housebuilding industry. They are awarded after the construction standard setting body NHBC carries out a series of spot check site inspections to select the best-organised and best-quality housing developments.
Almost 15,000 Site Managers throughout the UK were judged on every aspect of their job, including technical skill, quality workmanship, customer service and site safety.
This is the second consecutive Quality Award for James Arrowsmith, who at the age of 29 is one of the youngest Site Managers in the country to receive the award. He has been commended for his work at The Lyng in West Bromwich.
James, from Walsall, who began working with the firm as an Apprentice Carpenter more than 10 years ago, said: “I’m over the moon about winning this second award in as many years. I’ve got a great team with me, and we’ve been working hard onsite to bring quality new homes to West Bromwich since arriving last July.”
Senior Site Manager Jim Rogers, 48, from Wolverhampton, has won his fourth Pride In The Job award in seven years, for the Bilberry Chase development in Cannock. He said, “It’s a terrific achievement, and it’s as much about building a great team around you on the site as it is about building great homes.”
At 47, Site Manager Sean Talbot, from Muxton in Telford, has won his first ever Pride In The Job award, for the Bowbrook Meadows development in Shrewsbury. He said, “My team and I put a lot of passion and hard work into the homes we build, and I’m thrilled that this has been recognised.”
All three Site Managers will now go on to the final round of the competition which will select the best Site Manager in Britain later this year.
Adrian Farr, Managing Director of Barratt Homes West Midlands said: “This official recognition by the NHBC of our Site Managers confirms that we are building some of the best quality homes in the country here in the West Midlands.”
“We have a superb track record in these awards and it’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of not only the Site Managers themselves, but also everyone else involved in these commended new developments.”
Brandon Lewis, Housing and Planning Minister, said: “As government and industry work together to build the homes the country desperately needs, it’s important that housebuilders don’t lose focus on quality. The Pride in the Job Awards are a valuable way of recognising great work on site in construction and Barratt Homes can be proud of their success.”
