New homes in Bath Road, Brislington were given the seal of approval at a formal opening last week (Friday 12 May).

Residents shared their experiences of life in their new homes at Bath Road, when Sovereign Housing Association and representatives from Bristol City Council and EG Carter & Co Ltd officially opened the new development.

The new homes have been built in the grounds of Grade II-listed Lynwood House. Owned by the Plymouth Brethren since early 1800’s, the site was put on the market for development in 2012.

The dilapidated shell of the Grade II listed Lynwood House has been tastefully restored to provide four one- and two-bedroom flats for shared ownership.

In total, 52 much needed affordable homes have been built at Lynwood Park ranging from one and two-bedroom flats to two- and three-bedroom houses. These are available for a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership.

Sovereign, who’ve worked closely with Bristol City Council and EG Carter & Co Ltd, will manage the homes.

Lesley Metcalf, Sovereign’s Regional Head of Development, said: “It’s great to be able to take some time out to see the results of the work we’re doing to provide homes our communities need.

“Bristol City Council is committed to building 2,000 new homes a year by 2020 in Bristol and we’re committed to playing our part in meeting that aspiration. In 2016 we delivered 140 new homes across the city.”

Phil Barnes, Regional Manager, E G Carter & Co Ltd, said: “We’re proud of the work we’re doing with Sovereign. Lynwood Park marks a key milestone as it reflects the 300th home we’ve built together and we have many other schemes in the pipeline.”

The first residents moved in during November last year and the final shared ownership flat has now been sold, with its new occupiers expected to move in shortly.

Tony Carey, councillor for Brislington East helped cut the ribbon. As part of his speech on the day he said: “I was born and still live in the area. It’s wonderful to see this development and the existing building, Lynwood House, restored and looking presentable.

“Mayor Marvin Rees made housing his priority and the contribution of Sovereign and partners have set the wheels in motion to build housing in Bristol.”
