Nine new homes are set to replace the Motaman outlet on Bedminster Parade following the owner’s decision to close the business.
Now, two one-bedroom and seven two-bedroom flats will be configured over two floors above the ground floor commercial space.
Fast-growing South Bristol regeneration and development specialists Helm Construction – who completed large scale works at nearby Morley Road, St Lukes Hall in Bedminster and the new Chessels Nursery - will carry out the building project.
Construction Director Jon Ticehurst said:
“The Motaman store has been a familiar landmark on Bedminster Parade since 1985 – but with the increasing complexity of cars and engines fewer people are relying on motoring stores. “Internet shopping has also had a major impact. But we are looking to replace the store with some much-needed homes.
“There will also be a shop unit on the ground floor to help preserve the Parade’s retail element.”
Jon Ticehurst said:
“The scheme is part of a wider regeneration of South Bristol which has transformed a number of run-down districts and created the vibrant street scene we see today.”
Helm Construction has doubled in size to keep up with an ever expanding order book – with much of its recent workload in South Bristol including retail and residential projects at Wells Road, in Knowle and Bushy Park in Totterdown.
