Shaylor Group’s conversion of the former Christopher Wray building achieved a key milestone last week with the project reaching the ‘Topping Out’ stage. West Midlands Mayor Andy Street led the celebrations, joined by Shaylor Group’s Business Development Director Lana Shaylor. During the event Andy and Lana trowelled in a concrete plinth on the 15th floor of the new build student accommodation block currently being constructed alongside the Grade II Listed buildings.

Situated in bustling Eastside Park and surrounded by educational institutes, student accommodation and the Thinktank Museum, this prominent redevelopment project will bring the once derelict building back into active use. The completed project will provide student accommodation, retail units, office space and bars. The area continues to attract investment with the new Birmingham City University campus at Eastside and plans to regenerate Curzon Street around the new HS2 station.

Lana Shaylor commented

“It was fantastic to have Andy join us for this landmark event. This project is a delicate balance of innovative construction and skilled restoration which brings with it a great deal of challenges. However, as we looked out over the project from the top floor of the building I could really appreciate the huge potential it has as a seminal addition to the Eastside area”.

Andy Street said:

“Having seen the buildings several months ago, when work was still at an early stage, it was really impressive to see the progress that has been made. The way the modern element of the development sits with the Grade II Listed building is truly impressive. I look forward to a third visit when the work is completed.”
