The recent promotion of a new Land Director in its Solihull-based Mercia division has shown David Wilson Homes as a business which rewards employee loyalty with career progression.

Andrew Dauncey was recently promoted from Project Director to Land Director, and will be responsible for growing the Land Department and developing in-house talent to deliver new homes in 2020.

Andrew joined the company 21 years ago as an apprentice and, by working under the company’s ethos of enthusiasm and self-application, Andrew has since climbed the UK’s leading five-star homebuilder’s career ladder.

In 2019, David Wilson Homes Mercia built 714 homes – 106 of which were affordable – and recorded £39.2m worth of land for investment.

Andrew believes the task to maintain David Wilson Homes’ year-on-year growth trajectory will be challenging but achievable, and he will use his 21 years’ experience to guide him.

He said,

“Since joining David Wilson Homes’ Mercia division, I’ve worked with the team to acquire over 2,000 land plots including most recently, new homes at B5 Central in Birmingham. The long-running regeneration of Camp Hill in Nuneaton is one I am most proud of working on.”

Andrew also believes that the similarities with his previous role will help his team deliver much-needed new homes in their operating area.

“There are plenty of similarities in the role between Project Director and Land Director such as meeting with land agents, working with technical teams, and focusing on land acquisition to deliver new homes,”

he explained.
“That said, we are incredibly busy and I need to keep finding opportunities for David Wilson Homes to maintain their growth curve and their five-star status.”

Dominic Harman, Managing Director for David Wilson Homes Mercia congratulated Andrew on his new appointment and underlined how a long-term commitment to the company leads to in-house career progression.

“I would like to congratulate Andrew on his promotion to Land Director,”

he said.
“His appointment to this senior position is an example of how a long-term commitment and application to David Wilson Homes is rewarded with career progression.”
