A Leicestershire homebuilder is integrating Part L energy efficiency standards into its housing developments in Melton Mowbray and Hugglescote.

With the introduction of Part L, homeowners at Barratt Homes' King's Meadow and Grange View developments have the potential to make substantial cost savings on their energy bills, while enjoying eco-friendly and sustainable living.

Part L is all about making homes more energy-efficient, in order to ensure the ability to use less energy for heating, lighting, and other everyday needs.

The new requirements see buildings having to perform to higher standards – reducing CO2 emissions by 31%, together with a new emphasis on low carbon heating systems. These measures are also an interim step towards the Future Homes Standard that will arrive in 2025.

By implementing the changes at King's Meadow in Melton Mowbray and Grange View in Hugglescote, Barratt Homes has taken another giant leap towards creating homes that can save homebuyers money in the long run.

The Home Builders Federation reported that new homes built from June 2023 under Part L will emit 73% less carbon than older homes, a saving of over 2.5 tonnes per property each year.

The same report concluded that the average new build home buyer saves £137 a month on energy bills, amounting to £1,640 a year, compared with purchasers of equivalent older properties.

This saving rises to £184 per month for purchasers of houses, rather than flats or bungalows, totalling £2,200 a year.

It also states that properties built from June 2023 onwards – to Part L regulations – will see an average saving of over £2,000, rising to £2,600 for houses specifically.

Martyn Parker, Sales Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said:

"We're thrilled to bring Part L into the new homes at King's Meadow and Grange View. It's all about giving our homeowners the best of both worlds – beautiful, comfortable homes that are also budget-friendly.

"With the potential to save up to £2,200 per year, new build properties are a game-changer for our customers.

"As such, we'd encourage anybody interested in finding a new property in Leicestershire to speak to our Sales Advisers to find out more about the new properties available, to ensure they don't miss out on the first pick of the new homes."

The developer is currently selling a range of three and four bedroom properties at King's Meadow off Kirby Lane in Melton Mowbray. While at Grange View, a mix of three, four and five bedroom homes are currently being sold.
