NEW homes in Bleadon will be among the most energy efficient available.

Edenstone Homes is progressing well with its transformation of a former quarry to provide much-needed new homes.

The homebuilder acquired the eight acre site on Bridge Road from Marshalls, the UK's leading hard landscaping manufacturer.

With the first properties due to be released for sale in Spring 2024, potential purchasers are being encouraged to register their interest.

Edenstone sales director Adele McCoy said:

"We've been receiving enquiries from people interested in our new homes in Bleadon since we announced the acquisition of the site in summer 2022. Reserved matters approval was subsequently secured and since then we've been preparing the land for housing. Work is progressing well and we're looking forward to launching the development soon.

"New build homes generally are among the most efficient available, but the ones we're building in Bleadon will raise the bar. As part of our wider ambition to bring zero net energy homes to all our developments we'll be introducing zero net energy on every house style we build in Bleadon. These homes are set to achieve energy performance certificate (EPC) A ratings. This is the highest energy performance certificate (EPC) rating and only 2% of new homes currently meet this standard."

In recognition of the development's green credentials, it will be known as Eden's Green. It will eventually comprise 42 homes, including 29 private sale properties and 13 affordable homes.

At least seven of the homes are expected to achieve the EPC A rating thanks to PV panels with battery backup.

Across the development there will be a choice of two, three and four bedroom semi-detached and detached homes, with electric vehicle charging facilities provided.

Bordered by mature woodland and hedgerows, the development will see the former quarry transformed into a new community with nature at its heart.

Edenstone is committed to enhancing the biodiversity of the site. Features will include a wetland pond at the entrance, a new community park with a children's play area, community orchard and plenty of green open spaces.

Edenstone will make a series of section 106 contributions to support the growth of the neighbourhood. These include upgrades to the network of safe routes to school, plus almost £28,000 to maintain these routes; almost £30,000 towards the installation of two new bus shelters on Bridge Road; more than £5,000 for sustainable transport; £4,500 for fire hydrants and almost £3,000 towards footpath improvements.

There will also be a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) contribution.
