Twycross Zoo is pleased to announce that its team, led by CEO Dr Sharon Redrobe, has won the Team of the Year award from East Midlands Chamber’s Enterprising Women Awards, in recognition of their tireless pursuit of excellence. The team was one of five finalists in the category in a ceremony held on Friday 4 March.
Led by Dr Redrobe, who was recently named Businesswoman of the Year, the team’s mission is to establish Twycross Zoo as a major national attraction with over 1 million visitors a year, generating sufficient revenue to be financially stable and support the development of world-class animal habitats. The results of their efforts are already visible with a 6% increase in visitor numbers and the progress made on its ambitious £55million capital investment programme.
Starting with smaller projects, Twycross Zoo has seen investments in the largest wet play area in Leicestershire, resurfaced paths, and a new Giraffe Savannah enclosure. Three attractions offering close-up and safe animal interaction have already been opened in the form of Lemur Walkthrough, Lorikeet Landing and Butterfly Forest. February 2016 marked the opening of the most significant development in the Masterplan portfolio of projects to date, the £2million Gibbon Forest, attracting over 18,000 people in the first twelve days of it opening.
Another £250,000 project is currently underway to resurface two of the zoo’s larger car parks and work will shortly begin on a refurbishment of the main retail outlet. The next species which will receive upgrades to their enclosures are the zoo’s iconic chimpanzees.
Speaking of the award, Dr Redrobe says, “I am delighted to receive this award on behalf of everyone at Twycross Zoo, in recognition of the great work we are doing. I have the privilege of leading an outstanding team of enthusiastic and dedicated people from the executive team to the animal keepers. Together we have achieved so much in the challenging last few years and I am honoured to see that the judges recognise our efforts and great teamwork. I believe that this award will further motivate all of us in pursuing our mission to make Twycross Zoo a world-class attraction that is committed to wildlife conservation.”
Twycross Zoo is open to the public from 10.00 to 17.00. For more information and to book tickets visit www.twycrosszoo.org or call 0844 474 1777.
