Newtons of Bury, the town’s first co-working space, has partnered with Salford Roasters to open a pop-up artisan coffee counter. Visitors to the venue on The Rock can now enjoy a cup of speciality coffee, prepared by an expert barista, while having meetings or working on their latest projects.

Newtons of Bury, which opened its doors in 2018, provides co-working, serviced offices and meeting rooms in the premises of the former furniture shop that bore the same name. It has become a popular hub for the town’s freelancers and homeworkers, and offers a number of membership options as well as the facility to access the space on an ad-hoc basis.

Salford Roasters was founded in Worsley in 2016 by coffee aficionado Nik Storey. The collaboration between the two businesses came about in order to offer something different for clients, particularly those using the space for business meetings.

The front space, which houses the pop-up counter, is also open to walk-in customers.

Founder Matthew Kendall explained,

“We offer co-workers free tea, coffee and refreshments on a self-service basis but sometimes you want something a bit special, or not to have to head to the kitchen and put the kettle on when you meet up with a business associate.

“Nik and I had known each-other for a while and the pop-up coffee counter idea seemed perfect for both of us. We are able to offer something new to our clients and Nik has a cost-effective outlet to let people sample his fantastic product.”

Salford Roasters, as the name suggests, roasts its own coffee. It sources beans of single origin, meaning not just consistent quality but also a higher price paid to farmers than they would normally receive.

In addition to coffee the pop-up counter also sells handmade vegan cakes. These are baked by The Vegan Cake Baker, which is based in Bury.

Jason Groves, Studio Director at design agency Nettl of Bury and a regular co-worker at Newtons, said,

“Newtons has always been a fantastic place to work and network. Now it’s also a great place to grab a coffee – it’s the full package.”
