Staff at N Notaro Homes Ltd are celebrating after a member of the team took home an award from the 2017 Care & Support West Care Awards.

Ali Kinsella received the Disability Care Award and Stuart House Residential Dementia Home was a finalist for the Dementia Care Award at The Care & Support West Care Awards ceremony at Ashton Gate Stadium.

Ali Kinsella, who is a Registered Manager at Campania Alcohol Related Brain Damage (ARBD) Care Home in Weston-super-Mare, explained:

“I started off as a tea girl in a nursing home when I was 15 and have worked in care settings ever since so to have received this award is a real honour and makes it all worthwhile.

I manage the home on a day-to-day basis and ensure high standards are maintained. I also look after staff retention and recruitment, and complete assessments and ensure smooth transition into the home. I work with the staff and residents on a three-step enablement programme to ensure that the residents engage in the activities that they enjoy and lead a fulfilling life while here at Campania.

I really enjoy working with my residents and seeing them progress. A simple smile when they achieve a task is so rewarding.”

Ali also works closely with the Avon & Somerset Police, delivering training on mental health to all student police officers at the police headquarters.

She welcomes the students in on placements to Campania & Serenita ARBD Homes, where they learn about the residents and how Notaro supports them.

It was the Avon & Somerset Police together with Notaro that endorsed her nomination for the care awards.

Stuart House Residential Dementia Home is also in Weston-super-Mare and part of the Notaro family of businesses was a finalist at the awards too.

Manager Debbie Brazier said:

“I recommended my team as I am extremely proud of their values and integrity and they are truly deserving of the award. They work hard to maintain high standards and will do the right thing in all situations. An example of this is how they selflessly spend their breaks everyday sat with residents and always put their needs first.

The team has created an environment of openness and honesty and shows understanding and empathy. I frequently witness them listening to residents talk about their fears, concerns and triumphs. It is incredible to watch them connect and see how much they trust their care. It is so nice to know that while both residents and relatives are fighting an uncertain battle every day, they still have my team making them smile and laugh.”

The Care & Support West Care Awards cover Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucester.

Nunzio Notaro, Managing Director, said:

The Care Awards are a fantastic opportunity to highlight and celebrate the exceptional work done by those in the care sector. It is these people that truly make a difference to countless people’s lives. They are ambassadors for the industry, extolling the very best in care.

We are incredibly proud to have a winner and a finalist in these awards and all the directors and management would like to congratulate the individuals and teams involved.”
