On Saturday 24th October, award-winning house builders Crest Nicholson invited local artists, creatives and visionaries down to their Pop-Up Art Studio for 12 hours of creativity.
Between 9am and 9pm at the main event space in the heart of Bristol’s creative quarters, Paintworks, they were set the challenge of creating a unique piece of artwork inspired by what Paintworks means to them. Artists were encouraged to use any medium they liked whether that was paint, clay or even a digitally-inspired graphic.
At the end of the busy day, esteemed local sculptor Carol Peace helped critique all of the creations to help Crest Nicholson decide on the final winners Astrid Foreman and Stephan Quick.
Astrid Foreman, an upcoming artist from Bristol created Geleentheid, Afrikaans for ‘Opportunity’, which was inspired by a photo from a recent family trip to South Africa. The photo was taken on a boat as Astrid was thinking about her pending move to Bristol and the opportunities that would present themselves.
Stephen Quick of Splintered Studio, a live stencil and spray artist, also from Bristol created Paintwork Lip. Taking inspiration from the past and present of Paintworks, Stephan first created a decoupage base for his piece, before using spray paint and stencils to finish off the image of a face with colour and texture. As the finishing touch Stephan added the word ‘Paintworks’ to the face’s pulled down lip.
As the winners, they will have their artwork commissioned by Crest Nicholson and displayed at the residential properties currently being developed at Paintworks. Runners up, Mike Farrell, Leanne Wharton and Uti David, will also have their work promoted, along with the winners, to help reach a wider audience for a limited time in the hope that it inspires local people to bring out their creative side.
Sandra Dixon, Sales and Marketing Director at Crest Nicholson’s South West division, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who came down to create their own piece of art on the day. There were some outstanding pieces created and we’re delighted to be in a position to commission Astrid’s, Geleenheit and Stephen’s Paintwork Lip at the new residential area of Paintworks.
This area is already a hub of creativity so we hope that displaying these pieces of art will symbolise the unique lifestyle on offer here at Paintworks when the apartments go on sale next year.”
Last year planning permission was granted to Crest Nicholson for Phase 3 developments at Paintworks, which is now under construction. The development will provide an eclectic mix of one and two bedroom apartments, three and four bedroom homes plus live, work units.
Crest Nicholson’s Paintworks development promises to be an unmissable opportunity to live and breathe the lifestyle on offer at Paintworks, the heart of Bristol’s creative hub. Located in the Arnos Vale area of Bristol, Paintworks is within close distance to Bristol Temple Mead station and will enhance the already established community, which benefits from galleries and the unusual and hugely popular urban, warehouse type feel.
