The BRIT Award’s Best Male of 2007, James Morrison has backed Colston Hall’s transformation campaign, following his performance on Tuesday night (15 March) in the 150-year-old auditorium.
James returned to the Hall with Higher Than Here, a collection of “rousing songs”, before joining more than 12,000 people who have already signed-up to the 45k for 45m campaign.
The campaign, launched late last year, is calling on 45,000 people across Bristol, the region and the country to support the Hall’s £45m transformation.
Louise Mitchell, Chief Executive of Bristol Music Trust, said, “James Morrison is a great example of an artist - who took the music world by storm with just one guitar and an incredible voice. It is wonderful to have support from such a talented and inspiring British artist.
“The transformed Colston Hall will take its place amongst the finest concert halls internationally. We look forward to another sold out performance in our new facilities in the not so distant future.”
James has gone on to sell over 4.5 million copies of his first three albums and performed four world tours including sold-out shows to thousands at London’s Hyde Park.
Bristol Music Trust is on the way to reaching its target of raising £45 million. Commitments from Bristol City Council (£10m) and the Government (£5m) total £15 million. Arts Council England has also made £10 million available for the transformation project. This is subject to a second round of assessment of the Trust’s bid.
