The team at Glastonbury-based Fragrant Earth is celebrating after scooping the ‘International Business of The Year’ Award at the Mendip Business Awards.
The company began 40 years ago and is truly international in its approach, building its business through the presence of its current Chairman on the International Lecture Circuit; and sending current staff abroad to gain a cultural understanding of its markets as part of their training. As its original customers grew into internationally-recognised names so Fragrant Earth also developed, and it still supplies its organic products to some of its first customers.
40 years after it began the company exports to countries such as Japan, Canada and Hungary, and stays true to its home county with a flagship store in Glastonbury and a long-term relationship with Somerset Lavender. Many of its specialist staff are home-grown, and Fragrant Earth supports local clubs and associations as well as other worthy causes.
Speaking about the Award, CEO Shirley Routley said,
“We are honoured to have won the International Business of the Year Award. Fragrant Earth began in Glastonbury and, although our products have previously won awards, it is wonderful to see the business as a whole recognised in our local area.”
