2021 began with the nation in lockdown, but as it draws to a close we’re no longer cooped up at home.

In fact, for much of the past year many of us have been out, out - as restrictions were eased and socialising returned.

And if we haven’t been out, out ourselves, our socials have been awash with those who have.

It means we’ve been reacquainting ourselves with bars, restaurants and smart hotels and the wonderful interior design experience many of them offer.

We expect that, therefore, to have a significant influence on how we style our homes in 2022 - with the nation being much braver in their decor choices.

So, in comes materials like antique copper and brass - allowing homeowners to create a really prestige look at an affordable price - especially in kitchens which are swiftly replacing living rooms and the social hub of the home.

Colours that compliment vintage fixtures include rich greens and blues, for an effortlessly stylish look.

At the same time, a monochrome palette of matt whites and blacks is a simple way to create sleek environments that are calming and relaxing.

Over the past year many of us have, of course, used our time indoors to declutter our homes.

And now that we’ve got rid of the junk and clothes we’re never going to wear - our attention will turn to bringing the same design ethos to spaces that often go overlooked - like wardrobes.

With a wardrobe rail ‘makeover’, pride and satisfaction can be achieved through creating order and sophistication at minimal cost. What was previously utilitarian, banal, somewhat ugly and functional, can now be made stylish and a reflection of people’s personality and style.

It’s straightforward to style these environments - with coloured rails - in colours and materials like matt black and antique copper - before coordinating with matching coat-hangers.

We’ll see more illusion wardrobes with open rails - where we can display and enjoy a clutter-free environment that shows off our clothes to their best potential.

Self-expression and individuality don’t have to be confined only to the more public spaces at home like kitchens and living areas, but people’s personal storage spaces, like wardrobes and cupboards can be stylishly and affordably personalised too.

Transforming a home needn’t cost the earth. New handles, rails, poles and shelves can offer a swift style upgrade for next to nothing in the new year.
