Recognised as a key supplier to the world's ceramic and clay brick industries, Mantec Technical Ceramics has bagged its largest ever order for Ultralite. Developed and manufactured in Stoke-on-Trent, Ultralite is a microporous refractory product that provides lightweight, super-insulative mass in tunnel kilns. The contract – comprising a total volume of 520m³ – was placed by one of Europe's leading kiln construction companies.

Mantec's sales director, Mark Berrisford, commented:

"This is business that was hard fought for, and it's a prestigious contract. Ultralite is an internationally certified carbon neutral material; we believe the first such product manufactured in the UK to achieve this status.

"To give an idea of the scale of the order, this volume would effectively insulate around 100 kiln cars. We are going full out with production and are scheduled to complete delivery next month."

Ultralite is a technically advanced insulator. It is chemically inert and outlives ceramic fibre. It doesn't leave any dangerous residual material as it ages and it effectively never degrades. High-volume customers, such as those producing ceramic sanitaryware or clay bricks, have noted long-term consistent performance allied to sustained cost and energy savings. Many installations are still using their original material after 10 or more years.
