The Penventon Park Hotel in Redruth, Cornwall, has recently achieved AA Four Star status following an ongoing refurbishment programme that has so far cost £1.5m.

Forty of the 65 bedrooms have now been significantly upgraded with modern, high quality fixtures and fittings that include walk-in monsoon showers, double-ended baths, Ralph Lauren fabrics, Farrow & Ball paint, individually-designed mini-bar units built to resemble a steamer trunk and top-of-the-range beds. Work on the remaining bedrooms will begin in the autumn.

The hotel’s public areas have also been transformed. The leather-back armchairs in the dining room and conference room, for example, not only look good but have each been hand crafted with comfort as the top priority. Attention to artistic and ergonomic detail is evident everywhere and the bespoke copper bar, made by leading artisan Michael Johnson of The Copper Works in Newlyn, is regarded as a particularly fine feature.

The Penventon was first established as a hotel by the current owners, the Pascoe family, in 1968. A grand Georgian manor house, it is surrounded by 8 acres of beautiful parkland and situated in the heritage heart of Cornwall, with easy access to both north and south coasts. The business employs 126 people, developing staff through Apprenticeships and its own in-house management training scheme. The hotel has a two AA rosette restaurant and stocks more than 160 types of gin and 220 selected bins of wine.

“We’re delighted to have achieved four-star status and are moving ahead with plans to continually improve our facilities,” said director Aaron Pascoe. “We offer something very different to other Cornish hotels – a combination of sophistication, characterful quirkiness, artistry and individuality, all wrapped up with first-class service.”

Robert Martin, Hotel and Restaurant Inspector for the AA, said: “Having visited Penventon Park Hotel over the past several years as part of my work with AA Hotel Services it has been noted that there has been a considerable shift in quality and service this last year. A family run business which offered a very good product has now been moved onto a fully managed operation with a sound overall guest offering. An AA rating of Four Stars has been achieved and is well deserved. With his years of experience, General Manager Mr Rajesh Joshi has steered Penventon Park Hotel in the right direction, with an ever improving level of service noted.”
