FAMILIES from Somerset are invited to an award-winning farm shop this month for a ‘horrifying' Halloween Tea complete with a devilish disco, magic show and pumpkin carving (October 2023).

Rumwell Farm Shop, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, is hosting the tea on Tuesday, October 31 from 4.30pm until 6.30pm to celebrate All Hallows' Eve.

Anne Mitchell, Partner at the Farm Shop, says:

"Our horrifying Halloween celebrations are always spook-tacular fun and this year promises to be h-extra special, as we will once again be hosting a spooky-themed tea for children and their families.

"J's Disco will be here providing the entertainment for the afternoon, including amazing magic and fun games for everyone to enjoy, plus a spooky disco. So, bring your little ones along for a special fun-filled afternoon with all you could need to keep them entertained!

"Youngsters will get the chance to scoop out one of our pumpkins and draw a frightening face on it. Our staff will then take it to the kitchen and carve their design for them to take home.

"Children and adults are welcome to come in fancy dress – we'd love to see everything from ghouls and witches to every kind of scary get-up in between. The more imaginative the better! We'll be presenting a prize for the best costume on the day too.

"All the children who attend will be able to enjoy either a beef burger and French fries or sausage and French fries followed by one of our Bakery's famous mini doughnuts decorated with a Halloween twist."

Tickets for the Halloween Tea cost £14 per child. This includes food, activities and a pumpkin to create a design on, which will be carved by the Rumwell Café team for children to take home.

All children booked in must be accompanied by an adult. Adult tickets are £7 per person and include a hot drink and a choice of cake from a selection.

Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. It was originally a potato store, when David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate more than 25 years ago.

Due to customer demand, the range of products soon increased, and the Farm Shop grew into the place it is today. David and Anne's sons, James and Jack, are now also involved in the business, as well as their wives, Sophie and Donna.

The Shop has a traditional Butchery counter selling its home-reared and free-range pork and Rumwell Angus beef. Also onsite is the new, purpose-built Rumwell Orchard events space, a Delicatessen, Bakery, Jam Kitchen, Food Hall, Wine Cellar, Gluten Free Kitchen, Food To Go service and Gift Room.

In 2023, the farm shop picked-up eight Taste of the West Awards for its homemade products including six category Golds for its bakery-made sourdough loaf and rock cakes, its Butchery beef burgers – featuring its own farm Angus beef – and its lamb burgers.

The team also won gold for its gluten free bread, baked inhouse in its bespoke GF Kitchen, and its Countryman's Pickle, made by its onsite Jam Kitchen team. It was commended for a further two products – the Bakery's Biscoff doughnut and the Deli's chilli and spring onion Scotch egg, using eggs laid by its farm hens.

To add to this, Rumwell Farm Shop received two prestigious Gold Awards in both the Farm Shop and Café/Tearoom categories at the Taste of the West Awards – taking 2023's haul of Golds to eight.

It was also a finalist in the Large Farm Shop of the Year category in the 2023 national Farm Retail Awards.

The team won nine Taste of the West Golds in 2022 for its Shop, Café and products too.

Its dry cured back bacon was given the title of overall Champion Bacon in the 2022 Taste of the West Awards as well.

The food prepared in the Café kitchen is sourced from the Farm Shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just four miles away, and other regional suppliers. The Café kitchen has Coeliac UK's Gluten Free accreditation.

Tickets for the Halloween Tea, which are available online via Rumwell Farm Shop's booking page at http://tinyurl.com/v9atw5vw, cost £14 per child and adult tickets are £7 per person.
