‘Forgotten gem’ on the edge of the Cotswolds sold by Colliers International

The new owners of the Burleigh Court Hotel at Minchinhampton are aiming to raise the profile of the ‘forgotten gem’ on the edge of the Cotswolds.

Management consultants Corinna and James Rae have partnered with Simon Austin, formerly with the Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath, to buy the Georgian hotel from Louise Noble.

The sale was brokered by global real estate advisor Colliers International.

Corinna Rae said their philosophy would be based on the motto ‘eat well, sleep well, feel well.’

The couple will be taking the established business forward together with business partner Simon Austin at the operational helm. He recently left a manager position at the Royal Crescent Hotel.

Burleigh Court was built around 1800 and remodelled 100 years later by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis - who created the famous coastal village of Portmeirion in North Wales. The total asking price including the lodge was £1.9 million.

Peter Brunt, a hotels director at Colliers International, said the 18-room, Grade II listed Burleigh Court Hotel stands in three acres of grounds and has excellent views over the Golden Valley.

“It is quite rare to be able to offer a small country house hotel in the Cotswolds to the market and, predictably, interest levels were strong. The successful sale has left a raft of disappointed would-be purchasers.

“Honey pot locations such as the Cotswolds do seem immune to any negativity with the region being targeted by buyers as a copper-bottomed location in which to trade leading to significant market activity.

“Burleigh Court is in the heart of the Stroud Valleys, once the woollen mill capital of the Cotswolds. It makes an excellent place to stay for visitors attending National Hunt Racing at Cheltenham and the Badminton Horse Trials.

“Our clients owned Burleigh Court for the past 15 years and ran the business under management, but with a young family to look after the decision was taken to sell the hotel.”
