New to Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm this half term from 10 – 18 February, is a Chilean Rose Tarantula, Grammostola Rosea, which is on display in the Discovery Zone behind the safety of a glass tank. Best known for their lovely pink colouring, Chilean Rose Tarantulas are found in desert or scrubland regions of Chile, Argentina, and Bolivia. They are docile in nature and commonly kept as pets. They have tiny hair like barbs that can be used as defence by flicking the bristles at a predator causing an irritating, itching sensation! Their venom is mild, which they use to immobilise and liquify the insides of their prey which they drink through their fangs. Bites on humans are rare and comparable in pain to a bee sting.

Set in a large greenhouse, landscaped with waterfalls, ponds and tropical plants, the Butterfly Farm is the perfect setting to infuse romance and feel the joys of spring! The whole family can immerse themselves in the enchanting world of nature and relax whilst they stroll amidst some of the world's most stunning and colourful butterflies, set against the backdrop of a lush tropical rainforest.

Meet the Mini-Beasts, Pupae and Beetle demonstrations will be held daily in the Discovery Zone at 11:00am each day throughout half term. Visitors and families can join the Education Team and get close to some of the amazing creatures that live at the Butterfly Farm such as Giant Stick Insects and Madagascan hissing cockroaches, as well as learn about the life cycle of a butterfly.
