The Headland in Newquay, Cornwall, has been awarded five star status by Quality in Tourism.

Based upon an independent assessment, Quality in Tourism has recognised The Headland as one of the highest quality tourist destinations in Cornwall.

It is an accolade the hotel has been working towards for a long time and is the result of dedication from the entire Headland team, led by Darryl Reburn, managing director and wholly supported by the owners, John and Carolyn Armstrong.

Carolyn Armstrong said:

“Our thanks go to all the staff and loyal supporters of The Headland, who have always stood by us, recognising that improvement happens over the long-term. We are very grateful to everyone who has shared our vision and helped us to get to where we are today.”

Quality in Tourism is a national organisation dedicated to improving quality within the tourism sector. The five star status is in recognition of The Headland’s high standard of facilities, bedrooms, customer service, and the extra-special touches that surpass customer expectations.

Deborah Heather, director of Quality in Tourism, said:

“By understanding guest requirements, responding to their needs and then delivering them to the highest possible standard, we are delighted to award The Headland a five star quality rating. Our star rating is based upon robust and rigorous assessment. It’s about the overall guest experience and The Headland is at the top of its game.”

It is a triple five star rating for The Headland which has 95 en suite hotel bedrooms and suites. Its spa has been awarded five bubbles by the Good Spa Guide and its self-catering cottages have received an AA five star rating. The Samphire restaurant has also received a double-rosette from the AA.

Malcolm Bell, chief executive of Visit Cornwall, said:

“Guests and many local people think The Headland has offered five star service and exceptional quality for many years, so it is such gratifying news to learn that it has officially been awarded five stars. It is long-awaited recognition for the staff, management team and owners and we are all looking forward to the new Aqua Club development opening next year.”

The development of the £6 million Aqua Club, due to open in spring 2020, is the largest single investment made by the hotel in recent years; an extension of the £30 million that has already been spent evolving The Headland as a first-class luxury lifestyle destination, catering to families, couples and solo travellers alike.

The Aqua Club will house five pools, including a 25 metre training pool; a hydrotherapy pool; a children’s pool for families; an outdoor vitality pool and a heated infinity pool with views of the Atlantic. There will also be a sun terrace with impressive ocean vistas, and a stunning new restaurant named The Deck.

Darryl Reburn, managing director at The Headland, said:

“From the early days, it was clear that the potential for The Headland was as a world-class destination. It is due to the vision and determination of the owners and staff that The Headland has achieved five star status.”
