18th century property near St Austell sold by Colliers International

Grade II listed Boscundle Manor country house hotel in Cornwall has been sold off a guide price of nearly £1.3million.

The 18th century property was sold by Colliers International to husband and wife Jason Jones and Louise Uys-Jones, who both have extensive experience in the hospitality industry.

Ed Jefferson of the hotels team said: “Boscundle Manor was originally built as a manor house and has been a hotel for more than 30 years.

“We are delighted to have completed this sale, which brings about a new chapter for this historic property and illustrates how buyers are looking beyond present challenging global circumstances to opportunities in the longer term.”

Boscundle Manor is located in the heart of Poldark Country, near St Austell and the world-famous Eden Project. It was brought to the market on behalf of a private vendor at a guide price of £1,295,000.

Originally constructed as the home of the mine captain of the Wheal Eliza Consoles, one of the most prosperous tin mines in Cornwall, it is set in 1.7 acres of landscaped grounds and features 13 en-suite letting suites, an indoor swimming pool, bar and lounge areas.

Ed Jefferson said:

“Boscundle Manor is a high quality, Grade II-listed hotel with an elegant frontage which certainly doesn’t disappoint on arrival. Set in tranquil grounds with a peaceful feel, it makes for a relaxed visiting experience and yet remains highly accessible for visiting all that Cornwall has to offer.

“Although the sale process was put into the hands of a fixed charge receiver early in 2019, this situation was subsequently reversed, allowing the sale to proceed in the hands of our vendor clients as a transfer of a going concern.”

Jason Jones, new owner, added:

“This has been a long-held desire for Louise and I, and it’s a chance to add our experience and passion into a small boutique hotel that has real character. We will evolve the property over the coming year to make what we hope is a place we would like to stay in, with a focus on guest comfort with a small hotel feel and service standards to match.

“Colliers International has been highly supportive during this purchase. At all times we felt the process was treated with respect, and we understood every stage we were at and what aspects required resolving as we progressed the transaction. Our thanks go to all that have helped this purchase complete.”
