..State-of-the-Art Specialist Nursing Home in Bristol

Bristol – The award-winning specialist care provider, Cornerstone Healthcare Group, will celebrate the topping out of its latest 80-bed development, a £13 million environmentally responsible home on the Imperial Park site in the south of Bristol, on 21 June 2023, ahead of welcoming residents from next year.

Cornerstone Healthcare, which runs three specialist nursing homes in the south of England, is extending its care model to the South West, bringing 154 specialist beds for adults with challenging behaviours associated with complex neurological and mental health needs.

Johann van Zyl, Cornerstone Group CEO, said:

"We are delighted to be at this stage of the development. This is our second purpose-built home and topping out will be a clear indication that we are that much closer to opening."

The ceremony will be attended by partners in the project, including contractors, Real Construction, architects and project management consultancy, Northstar, and Cornerstone Healthcare's Board of Directors.

Northstar embraced Cornerstone Healthcare's commitment to low carbon technologies and renewable energy in the construction and operation of the property. With a living roof, solar panels and air-source heat pumps, the 80-bed new build is on course to receive a certification of ‘Excellent', the highest standard set by the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM).

The Burren has been orientated to the south west to allow the dayrooms, and the majority of the bedrooms, to make the most of the natural daylight minimising the amount of energy needed for heating.

The building features a sustainable drainage system and its thermal efficiency will be far in excess of building regulation standards.

Johann van Zyl confirmed the importance of delivering on the care provider's environmental, social and governance strategy:

"This innovative project is leading the way for the future of care home development. It's not only environmentally responsible, but it fulfils the social side of our ESG strategy. We have involved 22 businesses within a 30 mile radius of the site and it will be providing 140 local people with employment when it is fully operational.

"Plus, we will offer a lifelong home to people in the south west who currently struggle to find care that meets their complex needs."
