Newly launched eco-friendly bike rental business Somerton Electric Bike Rentals has begun a series of weekly ‘wellbeing’ rides for people suffering from loneliness in South Somerset.
The sustainable electric bike rental service based in Somerton allows locals and tourists to explore beautiful, rural South Somerset on four Assist Hybrid Step-Thru and Cross-Bar Electric Bikes, for £10 per hour.
Business owner Paul Thomas decided to start the wellbeing rides after growing concerns from mental health charities in the local Somerset area.
Paul says,
“As we come out of lockdown and start to adapt to some form of ‘normality’, it occurred to me that many people, particularly older people like myself, will have suffered from loneliness and lethargy after being cooped up for so long in self-isolation. We started Somerton Electric Bikes as a local service for people to explore the beautiful area, but actually there is so much more we can do to support each other during this time, and a socially distanced ‘wellbeing’ ride might be just what people need after so much time inside. E-bikes not only provide positive benefits to your health, but they also are environmentally friendly and easy and safe to use, so it’s the perfect way to get outside and meet new people.”
The weekly ‘Wellbeing’ rides begin from Saturday July 11th at 11am and include a short historical tour of Somerton. The group will include no more than four riders and comply with UK social distancing guidelines.
The cycling rental service joins a host of other growing local independent businesses in Somerton, including Craft House Chocolate, 28 Market Place, Just the Basics Somerton, The Etsome Arms and Big Munch Mac and Cheese.
With a battery range of over 20 miles, the touring bicycles allow riders to discover surrounding Somerton towns and villages, including Langport, High Ham, Pitney, Curry Rivel, Long Load, Long Sutton, Martock, Street and Glastonbury.
