THE first all-girl team to play in the North Liverpool Junior Football League has kicked off its first season after scoring sponsorship from Castle Green Homes.

Blackburn Eagles Under 10s comprises an amalgamation of academy level female footballers from across the Liverpool City Region, assembled to compete in the boys’ league.

Sponsorship from Castle Green Homes enabled the team to sport new kits and source equipment for the 2021/22 season.

The team’s manager Martin Parry explained:

“The sponsorship has meant that rather than playing in separate mixed boys’ teams, this group of talented girls could assemble as an all-girls’ team and compete at the same level as boys in their age group.”

“The girls have settled into the NLJFL and are more than matching themselves with the boys. Each week, opposition managers and parents are very surprised by what the girls deliver on the pitch and are very complimentary. League representatives are delighted with the girls’ involvement and very impressed with the technical level they achieve.”

The team is affiliated to East Lancashire-based Blackburn Eagles but trains and plays in Liverpool with matches at the Jeffrey Humble Playing Fields and Joe Stone Playing Fields.

NLJFL committee member Bob Doherty said:

“When the team approached us to come and play in the league we were happy to be able to accommodate them. The standard of football they play is superb and their skills are excellent including the way they move, pass and control the ball. It’s a pleasure to have them in the league.”

Sales and marketing director at Castle Green Homes Caryl Russell said:

“When we became aware of the opportunity to assist the team to set-up and establish itself as a new team within the league, we were keen to help. It’s inspiring to see girls challenging themselves in the boys’ league, particularly being the first girls team to do so. We hope they’ll wear their Castle Green sponsored kit with pride and that it brings them lots of luck.”

Castle Green Homes is looking to build on the success of its Wirral development Queensbury Manor, in Meols, which is nearing a sell-out, by acquiring additional land with development potential across the region. The company is preparing to launch Willow Fields in Warrington, which will offer 145 new homes.
