A DEVON care agency has revealed this month (June, 2018) that it is offering to re-train unemployed people looking for work so that they can become qualified carers.

Guardian Homecare, which is currently looking for 100 new staff in Torbay, Exeter and Barnstaple, will take on honest, reliable and kind-hearted individuals who are currently unemployed and train them up.

Regional Manager for the service provider, Katie Jewell said: “We’re offering those looking for a career in care, flexible contracts, as well as free, full training with the opportunity to achieve industry-wide qualifications.

“Our current team is highly motivated and provides excellent standards of care to service users. We’re now looking for new recruits to help make a difference to the lives of those who wish to be cared for at home and those who have never worked in care before or who are currently out of work are very welcome to apply too as full training will be given.

“We believe that offering people re-training in a new industry is a great way to get them back into the working world. Many unemployed people are eager to work and we’re looking for anyone who might be interested in re-training for a career in the care industry to get in touch.”

Guardian Homecare is looking for honest, kind, committed and reliable people, who have excellent communication skills and demonstrate a genuine care for others.

“Being reliable is key to this role as people will be looking after the needs of vulnerable adults. Applicants also need to be even-tempered and caring and must enjoy making a positive difference to people’s lives. Being patient, able to cope with change and having the ability to display empathy and warmth are also essential.”

Guardian Homecare already has more than 140 trained staff across Devon and operates a professional team of highly-skilled, committed individuals providing high quality care to people in their own homes.

“This is a great opportunity for those looking for a completely new and exciting chance to work in this very rewarding industry. Being a carer is a really fulfilling role and gives people the opportunity to carve out a career.

“We offer new recruits a five-day training induction and a 12-week onboard programme working towards a care certificate. We also offer flexible working hours, both full and part-time, as well as competitive wages, generous holiday allocation and a refer a friend scheme.

“We’re committed to up-skilling our workforce and we’re working hard to dispel the myth that carers are not valued in the sector. Being a carer is a highly skilled, professional vocational occupation that is essential to the fabric of our society. We’re searching for people who are looking for a long-term career. Care is a rapidly expanding sector and there is work in the area for many years to come.

“It is a great opportunity for people to achieve a recognised qualification and they’ll also be able to have access to exclusive discounts online and in-store from retailers including Tesco, Primark and Argos.”

Guardian Homecare provides support to thousands/hundreds of individuals wishing to remain in their own homes and cared for in a way that meets their health needs and offers a range of home care options.

“We deliver personalised home care supporting people wishing to stay living safely and comfortably in their own homes. Our support is not solely elderly care, we offer home care for adults of various abilities.

“Our team puts people first by helping individuals live independently and providing peace of mind for families. Our service is also completely personalised and ranges from daily visits to respite and overnight care.”

The three Guardian Homecare offices in Devon, which were previously known as Ark Home Healthcare, were recently acquired by the City & County Healthcare Group.

“The existing team at Guardian Homecare, which will receive additional training and support in the coming months, have been tremendous during the transition period and we’ve been able to retain as many of the staff that wished to stay on as possible. I’d like to thank them all for their commitment and support.

“We now move forward as a stronger and more stable organisation with the backing of the City & County Healthcare Group, which employs 7,000 people nationwide and operates 280,000 hours a week of quality care to those in need. It is one of the largest providers of community-based social care services in the UK. Every day, tens of thousands of people with care needs are supported by the group so they can continue living independently at home.”
