Circle Health, the hospitals, rehabilitation and healthcare services group, is starting work this month on a state-of-the-art, 14,957 square metre hospital, which will be based at Pebble Mill Birmingham, the new healthcare and medical scheme that runs along the arterial A38 Bristol Road.

Circle Birmingham Hospital will offer high-quality care and excellent facilities when it is due to complete towards the end on 2018.

It will be part of a growing portfolio of hospitals by Circle Health, which includes existing hospitals in Bath, Reading and Nottingham. Last month Circle agreed a £85 million contract to manage musculoskeletal services for the NHS commissioners in Greenwich.

Circle Health’s new hospital will provide three operating theatres that can be expanded and reconfigured to six, an endoscopy procedure room and 18 in-patient bedrooms, packed with the latest technology. Plans include a significant number of rehabilitation beds for patients with musculoskeletal and neurological conditions and comprehensive rehabilitation facilities.

Paolo Pieri, CEO of Circle Health said:

“This state-of-the art hospital will bring to Birmingham the high-quality care and excellent hospitality for which Circle Health is well-known. It is our intention to add a significant number of beds for physical and neurological rehabilitation, along with the latest rehabilitation technology.

“This is an exciting step forward for Circle to further scale its hospital operations in the UK.”

Construction will be by Simons Group according to plans created by Bryden Wood’s multi-disciplinary team of architects and designers

The hospital works will be the latest development at Pebble Mill, a world class destination for healthcare and medical facilities at the heart of Edgbaston Medical Quarter.

BUPA is currently on-site constructing its impressive 62 bed private care home and the Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry opened last year.

Ralph Minott, Development Director for Calthorpe Estates and Pebble Mill said: “A private hospital was our first approved medical use for Pebble Mill, when Calthorpe Estates secured outline approval for this scheme back in October 2010. We are now in the position, after many years of planning the vision, to see the various schemes with their outstanding facilities and services taking physical shape in the way we envisioned and these are reinforcing the growing reputation of Pebble Mill at Edgbaston Medical Quarter for healthcare and medical excellence.

“It has taken years to create the right mix and bring forward ambitious plans like Circle’s new hospital but we know the result will be outstanding. Calthorpe Estates has already invested in the landscaping and infrastructure and a beautiful and restful Tranquility Garden in the heart of Pebble Mill for visitors and the local community to enjoy.”

Calthorpe Estates has also partnered the Environment Agency as part of the Rea Catchment Partnership, drawing on the development opportunities at Pebble Mill to fund half of the £4 million flood defence project, which it is hoped will make significant improvements to the historic flood risk and flood of the Selly Park North communities.
