..to follow Football Association’s New National Mental Health Campaign

Business people from across the region have a great opportunity to learn from leading personal and workplace wellbeing experts at the Burton Albion’s second Healthy People, Healthy Business event on 17th January. The event is hot on the heels of the Football Association’s Heads Together mental health campaign released last week and narrated by Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

A third guest speaker has also joined the line-up at the latest Inspiring Your Future event at the Pirelli Stadium. Inspirational Paralympian footballer Darren Harris will put the spotlight on business leaders, who will be encouraged to look after their own well-being, which in turn benefits their business performance.

Fleur Robinson, Burton Albion Commercial Director, spoke about this years’ event:

"This year we are looking at the welfare of business leaders who are often concerned about the health of their businesses, but without realising, might neglect their own wellbeing. Our three inspirational speakers will offer a great wealth of knowledge and experience that we can use in our everyday working lives.

"As a member of the FA council, I was very proud to see the FA launch their new Heads Together video at all matches last weekend, supported by Prince William – the Duke of Cambridge. Having such high-profile ambassadors offers all football clubs the opportunity to promote mental health awareness, as it can be viewed as a tricky area to deal with.

“The foundation of our Healthy People, Healthy Business ethos is to start at the top with good working practises and spread this healthy approach throughout the workplace. We look forward to welcoming business leaders to Pirelli Stadium for this unique event."

The event will be hosted by Mark Clemmit (BBC Presenter) and will feature tips and advice from Dr Dorian Dugmore, PhD Cardiovascular Medicine. A Director of Corporate Well-being at the FA and Director of Beyond the Barriers, Dr Dugmore is a world leader in cardiovascular health and wellness, whose programmes have won global and European awards for best practice in corporate health and wellness and for improving the quality of life within the community.

In a sports career spanning more than 20 years, Darren Harris became a dual Paralympian, captain of the Para Lions, and England's most capped and most decorated blind footballer. Known for his minority mindset, a philosophy that inspires and in turn Darren enables people to achieve personal and professional success. In addition to a BSc in Mathematics and an MSc in Health Psychology, he has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate for outstanding public service.

In addition, Executive Coach and Mentor Thea Roberts will offer positive change advice having 27 years’ experience in commercial leadership roles up to MD level. She has responsibility for a turnover in excess of £450M and has led and developed large teams for retail and consumer packaged goods corporations, including Mars, Marks & Spencer, Waterstones and Essity. Inspired by facilitating positive change and unlocking potential in individuals and teams, she started her own business in 2018.

The event will be run in partnership with Smith Partnership Solicitors and a donation from the day will go towards the development of Burton Albion Ladies FC.

Claire Twells, partner at Smith Partnership Solicitors, said:

“The Inspiring Your Future – Healthy People Healthy Business event brings together groups of local businesses to inspire them to focus on personal development within their business.

“As a local business we are committed to the personal development of our staff and want to encourage other local businesses to do the same. We are looking forward to the event on 17th January.”

There will be an optional networking opportunity from 11.30am, including a welcome drink, followed by a prompt start to a two-course lunch at noon.

The main event will conclude around 2.30pm but will be followed by a further opportunity for networking. Single places (or tables) can be booked, costing just £30 per person (including VAT).
