Robinson Reed Layton, the independent firm of Chartered Accountants and Chartered Tax Advisers based in Cornwall, have announced the arrival of Accounts Assistant Georgia Blundell, who will be working at the firm on placement for the duration of the summer.

Georgia, who is currently studying Business Management at Swansea University, will be working primarily on tax returns as well as gaining experience of accounts and the firm’s probate offering.

Georgia is currently expecting to graduate from university in 2018, at which point she is hoping to embark upon a career in accountancy.

Georgia explained how pleased she is to have been appointed: “My course is quite rigorous, but entirely academic. I’m really looking forward to being able to get some practical experience of working as part of a team of accountants – especially with the great reputation that Robinson Reed Layton has in Cornwall.”

Having grown up in St Ives, Georgia was keen to find an opportunity to work locally, despite studying in Swansea and being offered opportunities to work in London.

Explaining her decision to return to the county for the summer, Georgia said: “I’ve lived in Cornwall for most of my life, so when I saw that Robinson Reed Layton were looking for someone to work as a summer placement, I had no hesitation in applying.

“As soon as I first walked into the firm’s Truro office, I was impressed by how professional and organised everything was, and everyone has been really friendly and welcoming. Even little things, such as having my own desk waiting on day one, just helped to make me feel a part of the team from the start.”

Nick Skerratt, a Partner at Robinson Reed Layton, said: “We were very impressed by Georgia’s application and she excelled in her interview. I’m pleased to hear that she is already beginning to settle in and I hope that Georgia profits from the opportunity in a way that is beneficial to her studies and long-term development in accountancy.”

Nick continued, “As a Cornish firm, we like to support the development of local talent by offering placements for undergraduates. It is a key part of our ethos to cultivate a working environment in which our people can successfully grow and the summer placement scheme is just one of the ways in which we do this.”
