A Lichfield firm of family-run solicitors is celebrating one of its paralegals completing an important stage of her career development.

Despite lockdown impacting everyone’s studies, it didn’t stop Burntwood paralegal Maddie Williams from completing and passing her Legal Practice Course (LPC) with flying colours.

Even with the unprecedented pandemic challenges, the 24-year-old, who joined the niche team at Adcocks Solicitors back in 2018, passed with a distinction.

She said:

“It feels like a big achievement to have passed my LPC, especially to have studied alongside work never mind the virus changing the way we studied. With all of these factors involved, to have achieved a distinction overall, is something I’m very proud of.”

Maddie, who worked part-time while studying for her LPC, works predominantly with private clients, including creating wills, lasting powers of attorney and trusts, but also enjoys getting involved in the 110-year-old firm’s specialist areas of leasehold reform and enfranchisement.

“Refining knowledge” at niche Lichfield firm

“As I’m at the start of my legal career, I really enjoy working in different areas, as it adds to my core skill areas and help me hone in on what I’d like to specialise in in the future,” added Maddie, who hopes to deal with probate and administration of estates shortly too.

“Now I’m back working full time, I’m able to pick up a bigger and more varied caseload, which again helps to broaden my skills and experience. There’s a lot of opportunity to learn and grow at Adcocks and I’m working closely with supervisors to really refine my knowledge.

“Despite the job often being challenging and busy at times, no day is ever the same and the satisfaction of assisting a client through to the end of a matter is always really encouraging.”

The next goal for Maddie, who enjoys dance classes and walking her two Border Terriers in the Peak District and on Cannock Chase with her boyfriend, is working towards being a fully qualified solicitor.

Adcocks’ Director Hedley Adcock said:

“We’re delighted Maddie has passed her LPC, allowing her to embark on the next stage of her career. She is an asset to the team, and we look forward to seeing her continue to develop her skills and knowledge at Adcocks.”
