Leeds-based commercial insurance broker, Gauntlet Group, has announced its latest audited results, having continued along its impressive growth trajectory and further invested in systems and employees.

In the year ending March 31 2017, Gauntlet recorded a premium income of £28m – a 34% rise. The increase can be attributed to further growth within Gauntlet’s motor fleet account, spanning bus and coach, haulage, and general motor fleet business, and a continued increase in business transacted by Gauntlet Enterprise – the AR division of Gauntlet Group.

Gauntlet Appointed Representatives are running their own businesses in locations as far apart as Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Emsworth, Hampshire.

To sustain this impressive growth and maintain the quality of service delivered to its customers, Gauntlet has invested in both recruitment and employee training. Gauntlet’s workforce now numbers 61 – a figure that reflects the company’s continued success. In April 2015, when it moved into new and owned headquarters, the employee count was just 25.

Many employees are now benefiting from external training programmes, or internal mentoring, with both opening up new internal career opportunities for them, as the group expands.

Gauntlet is currently investing heavily in a new Cloud-based IT system, which will deliver significantly more functionality than its already advanced and bespoke Cloud technology. This will streamline the business even more effectively than at present, freeing up resource and delivering more benefits to Appointed Representatives working remotely in their individual business locations.

Gauntlet’s managing director, Roger Gaunt, says: “The latest financial results are extremely satisfying in their own right, with the Gauntlet Group continuing to grow and attracting top quality individuals who wish to have a career with us, either directly, or indirectly as an Appointed Representative running their own business with our support.

“However, it is the bigger picture surrounding the results that is most rewarding. Growth is relatively easy to achieve, with the right resources in place, but managing growth and the changing corporate environment that rapid growth brings is a different challenge. We have shown that, by reinvesting profits in the business, we are handling all change scenarios in an effective and efficient manner. This is giving our employees and ARs some amazing opportunities, which many are seizing as they build their careers with us. For me personally, that is as rewarding as growth per se.”

Gauntlet has set perhaps its most stretching targets to date for 2017-18 and is already on track in many areas of the business. It will shortly be announcing new options available through its health and safety division, alongside new products that corporate customers can access for their businesses or transport operations. Gauntlet Enterprise will also be providing news about its latest Appointed Representatives.
