A series of free talks organised by the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) featuring top business leaders, will return next month. Members of the public will be able to tune in virtually to view the Wednesday evening lectures given by leading executives from Shakespeare’s Globe and The Law Society.

The University’s Bristol Distinguished Address Series (BDAS) will begin on Wednesday 2 February, with a live video talk from Dr Margaret Casely-Hayford CBE, Chair of Shakespeare’s Globe.

Titled 'Trust and Governance: where to now?’, Dr Casely-Hayford will explore how harnessing the enormous potential of entrepreneurs, innovation and enterprise may help solve climate emergency and social inequality. Businesses must strive to do better in the boardrooms. This means freeing decision-makers in business to act in everyone's long term interests - combining traditions of good stewardship and responsibility with new ideas to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

On Wednesday 2 March, I.Stephanie Boyce, President of The Law Society, will deliver a live video talk titled ‘Dare to Dream’. She will share her journey to becoming the first President of colour of The Law Society, and the barriers that she has and continues to break down. Stephanie is determined to inspire everyone, regardless of their background, to join the solicitor profession, should they wish to do so.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Steve West said:

“We are delighted to launch the Bristol Distinguished Address Series once again, with two fascinating speakers getting the series underway for 2022. This is an excellent opportunity to hear directly from inspirational figures with a wealth of experience at the highest level.”

The Bristol Distinguished Address Series is delivered by UWE Bristol Business School in partnership with ACCA, Bristol City Council, Bristol Creative Industries, Bristol Junior Chamber, Bristol Law Society, Business West, CBI, CIPD, CIPFA, CMI, FSB, IoD, ICAEW and the West of England Combined Authority.

All BDAS lectures are free to attend, are open to all, and take place online from 18:30. Members of the audience will have the chance to ask questions during a Q&A session following each talk.
