SMB College Group Countryside Management Students Engage the Community with ‘Forest School’ Initiative!

SMB College Group’s Level 3 Countryside and Environmental Management students recently shared their skills with the next generation by hosting ‘Forest School’ events for Thrussington and Gaddesby Primary schools!

During these fun-filled and educational days, the children participated in sunflower planting, clay model making, bug house building and listened to a talk all about trees and forests. They even got to have a true campfire experience with s’mores and hot chocolate!

Lolly Tunnicliffe, Level 3 Countryside Management student at SMB College Group’s Brooksby Campus, said:

‘I wish to thank both Thrussington and Gaddesby Primary schools for attending our Forest School days! This project helped me to gain leadership skills and taught me that it is possible to run fun activities, no matter what the weather! It has made me think about what career path I’d like to go down in the future.’

This project allowed the college’s Countryside Management students to gain vital skills for outdoor activity leading, including understanding risk assessments, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, advertising and event planning.

SMB College Group has been offering a range of land-based courses at the Brooksby Campus for generations, with the first cohort of students being just after World War Two! The college is proud of its land-based heritage and is currently spearheading a number of sustainable land management, agroforestry and regenerative agriculture projects so that their students leave college equipped to be at the forefront of this rapidly changing and exciting industry.

If you’re interested in studying Countryside Management, SMB College Group offers both full-time courses and apprenticeships. Apply online today or find out more at the Brooksby Campus Open Day on Saturday 22nd June:
