Hallatrow-based Bookbarn International is extending its support for children and also with adults in the area with learning disabilities.

Bookbarn is one of the largest booksellers in the UK - shipping orders from the warehouse in rural Somerset to customers all over the world every day.

It is also a major local employer with close links to the surrounding community.

Chief Executive Fenna Leake said:

“We are also lending our support to children and adults with learning disabilities.

“By working closely with the Swallow charity we have employed a new cleaner and we also provide work experience to young adults from Fosseway School.

“As an employer we are committed to provide experience to people with fewer opportunities - we consider ourselves a part of the community with the resources to help and fulfilling work that needs to be done!”

In the meantime Bookbarn International has also been working closely with younger generations in the community.

Bookbarn International recently presented a large selection of books to pupils at St Mary Redcliffe C of E Primary in Bristol.

And youngsters from nearby Farrington Gurney Primary School walked across the fields to visit the barn and enjoyed participating in the activities prepared by the team.

Fenna Leake said:

“We planned a scavenger hunt for the children – they received a free book if they could find everything on the list.

“We’ve recently reorganised our shop, which included improvements for the Young Adult reading area. Farrington School were the first to test it out and judging by the smiles on their faces and the arms full of books – we think they approved!”

Fenna added:

“The Bookbarn team are really enthusiastic about hosting school visits as we believe supporting children’s literature is really important to their development. We look forward to welcoming more schools in the future."
