Blues group Rag and Moan Men have paid a visit to Newbury College to participate in two student-led live recording sessions.
Working with teams of Music Technology students, Andy Wilkin and Martin Wood (two-thirds of the line up) recorded five tracks in the Forum, a large performance space at the College.
As part of a number of industry-focused activities on the music technology course, the student teams set up the equipment, managed the soundchecks and produced a series of multitrack recordings of the duo performing live, which will now be mixed by the students and presented to the band before the Easter holidays.
“We really enjoyed our time working with the students,”
said Martin, guitarist and vocalist with the band.
“They were efficient and professional and made us feel at home. I’m really looking forward to hearing the final mixes.”
The sessions were organised by Matt Foster, Course Leader for Music Technology, who is also a practising, professional musician.
“I really enjoy creating opportunities for students to work with colleagues from across the music industry. “Along with the work we have done with Waterbear, and various other artists, the ability to collaborate and experience the different genres of music, as well as roles and skills required to work in this industry, are invaluable. These activities greatly enrich the programme and allow students to produce high-quality, purposeful work. Martin and Andy were fantastic to work with, and I’m so grateful for their help and support.”
Music Technology programmes are offered by Newbury College up to Level 3, which is equivalent to A Levels and provides opportunities to progress either to university or a career in the music industry.
