Ten Millfield Prep Netball players won the once-in-a-lifetime chance to open the first ever World Schools Netball Cup, which was hosted at Loughborough University in June.

The school was voted for by members of the public on social media to open the tournament by playing in one of the opening exhibition matches in front of a crowd of hundreds, an experience which many of the players will never forget. The tournament offered the opportunity for the best school netball teams on earth to showcase their talents on the international stage.

The team finished runners up in the tournament, with Year 8 Chumba Koech being awarded the Player of the Match six out of eight times.

Millfield Prep’s netball programme hosts numerous local, county and regional tournaments, with players from all age groups having the opportunity to participate in weekly training sessions. The pupils participate in two sessions a week in addition to matches on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the Spring Term. The school has seven netball courts and one indoor court, with at least two teams in each year group (including U8s), with up to five teams when numbers permit.

Millfield Prep currently have six Somerset satellite players (U14) as well as two U16 County players. The U11A, U12A and U13A teams enter the regional IAPS netball tournaments and are commonly successful at National level. After Year 8, pupils can progress to Millfield where the school has recently become the latest Hub location for the Soldi-sponsored Team Bath Netball Futures Pathway, developing the next generation of netball talent in the South West.
