Smoking Gun has been appointed by Tutorful to manage a media relations campaign around online tutoring - helping parents who are trying to home school in the COVID-19 lockdown.

Tutorful, an Airbnb-style website that matches schoolchildren with tutors, has seen a 100% increase in its online tutoring offering since the schools closed, and has completely refocused its offering to online because of social distancing rules.

Smoking Gun, which scooped two global awards last year for excellence in measurement and evaluation at the AMEC Awards, has been appointed to manage media relations around Tutorful’s success story and a new product offering of group classes which are more affordable than one-on-one tutoring classes.

Mark Hughes, co-founder of Tutorful, says:

“Online tutoring used to make up just 20% of our business, it is now 100% - so we knew we had a good story to tell as we are genuinely offering parents something useful. Online tutoring keeps kids engaged in learning in this difficult time, and also takes the pressure off parents who are no doubt feeling stressed with the added pressure of trying to home school whilst working from home.

“We wanted to get the message out there about our new, more affordable group classes too to really help parents. Smoking Gun was recommended to us to deliver an effective media relations campaign so we're very excited to be working with them on this project.”

Smoking Gun’s managing director, Rick Guttridge, continued:

“It’s no secret that times are very tough for many businesses at the moment but the ones that are thriving are those fulfilling a real need. We’re really pleased that we’re able to help Tutorful target parents and communicate its services that can help families with the tricky times we’re all experiencing at the moment.”
