Haines Watts add to their apprentices

Haines Watts Tamworth and Ashby office have recently added to their apprentices by employing Inneka Chetter as a VAT apprentice.

Inneka had originally been offered a place at Oxford Brooks to study Biology following her A levels in Physics, Maths, Biology and Business Studies, but instead chose an apprenticeship rather than University.

Inneka said “I prefer to start work as I will be working and gaining a qualification at the same time. Also, high student fees and debt was another reason why I chose an apprenticeship over University. I enjoy working with the team and I am looking forward to meeting clients and understanding VAT issues that arise”. Inneka will shortly start studying towards the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) qualification, an essential tool for a career in the tax sector.

Jason Croke, who heads up the VAT team said “We decided to employ an apprentice as we needed to invest in the future of the team and by having Inneka on board, it helps us develop Inneka from the very start and lay the foundations for a long-term career in tax. It also allows us to grow the team as a

whole, helping each other to bring the best out of people, progress our own development goals and maintain the quality services our clients come to expect”.

Jason continues “The apprenticeship route is not easy – either for the apprentice or the employer, it takes a time, effort and commitment from all parties but we’re all getting what we need from the process. I’m looking for new talent which can be developed into securing the continuity of our team and future growth of the business, whilst the apprentice is looking to explore their potential, learn new skills with a view to continuing their career and helping the team grow and develop too”.

Diana Brooks who is also an apprentice at the Tamworth office and who started some 18 months ago, also chose an apprenticeship over University as Diana prefers to gain a qualification without University debt. Diana is also studying towards the ATT qualification and enjoys the interactions with clients which University cannot prepare you for.

Steve Holden, who heads up the Tax Department at Haines Watts Tamworth said “Many early adopters of apprenticeship schemes, of which our team at Haines Watts are proud to be one, are already seeing the benefits of these apprenticeship programmes. Apprentices too are also seeing the benefits of the opportunity for paid vocational learning that can result in the start of a path to a degree or formal qualification without the worry of large student debt hanging around their necks."
