College Launches New Football Scholarship with Local Club

Walsall College has teamed up with Pelsall Villa Football Club to launch a new football scholarship for students starting in September 2017.

As part of the scholarship, students will study on a Sport programme at the ofsted outstanding college and work towards achieving a recognised qualification. Students can start on a Level 2 programme and progress all the way to HNC Level 4.

Alongside their course, students will train at Pelsall Villa’s football ground three times a week and play in the competitive Midland Junior floodlit league.

Curriculum Manager for Sport at Walsall College, Rayna Crawford-Jones said: “We are very excited about this new partnership as it is a further development of our Sport curriculum and increases the opportunities available to students in support of their career goals.”

Mark Howard, Sport Development manager at Walsall College commented: “This is a fantastic chance for skilled and talented footballers to play in a high standard of football and gain a recognised qualification.”

Pelsall Villa Co-Chairman, Mark Bentley, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for both parties to have an influence on the academic and sporting futures of the students within the local area. We are honoured to be partnering Walsall College in this exciting new venture."

Trials are being held for anyone interested in applying for the scholarship on Thursday 29th June, between 4pm – 5pm at Pelsall Villa’s ground on Walsall Road.
