Themis at Burnley College Apprentices are blazing a trail at the very heart of business and pioneering a brand new approach to sustainability throughout the North West, helping their employers in their mission to reach Net Zero.
And in 2023 that mission has never been more important, with increased focus on sustainability targets within the supply chain and more and more domestic customers choosing the ‘greener' alternative.
And in National Apprenticeship Week 2023, which runs from 6-12 February, how Themis Apprentices are passionate about driving the race to a cleaner, greener future – and saving the planet's vital resources – will be a focus.
Burnley College has always showcased its unrivalled links with leading businesses across the North West and beyond, its cutting-edge facilities and the exceptional levels of support and guidance it can offer potential Apprentices and Employers alike.
This year the drive is to demonstrate how important the push toward Net Zero and sustainability is across all industries.
Head of Apprenticeships at Themis Hannah Cutler says:
"National Apprenticeship Week is an important date in the Themis calendar as it allows us shine the spotlight on Apprenticeships and the limitless opportunities they offer.
"This year we have decided to shout about our commitment to sustainability.
"It is a word we hear louder and louder every single day. We hear it from our new Apprentices who are keen to make their mark on the world, in a responsible way.
"We also hear it more and more from our employers – some of whom are keen to reduce their energy consumption for economic reasons – while most have a true passion to preserve the planet.
"We thank all of our employers, partners and, of course, our exceptional Apprentices, for supporting Themis in our drive to ensure sustainability remains a key factor in industry long into the future – and there is a future for it to exist into."
In 2022, the Year of the Themis Apprentice, Themis launched sustainability training programmes for all its Apprentices, whatever their chosen industry or specialism. Through intensive, expert-led training sessions, every Themis Apprentice learns more about the need for business to embrace the latest green technologies and monitoring systems and how they can be agents for change through their knowledge of the green agenda.
Hannah Cutler added:
"We have challenged every Themis Apprentice, on completion of their specialist training programme, to create bespoke sustainability solutions for their own workplaces. We are passionate about them using this new-found knowledge to make a real difference for their employers, whether it is a large or a small-scale project.
"At Burnley College, our own Themis Apprentices are real pioneers in the field of sustainability, launching a range of green initiatives which have really engaged their colleagues and actively supported us to become more energy efficient – everything from car sharing programmes and recycling schemes to ‘Switch Off to Switch Off' campaigns to turn off electrical appliances and lights in the evening."
