Phoebus Software Limited (PSL) has revealed the results of its annual vote which determines its nominated charity for the year ahead. In 2021, staff at PSL will be supporting the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste, FareShare.

Last year, PSL raised £8,062 for Acorn Children’s Hospice based in Selly Oak. The money raised equated to over 230 hours of nurse-led palliative care for children with tailored care plans, including emergency and end of life care, as well as emotional and practical support.

Olivia Guglia from Acorns Children’s Hospice says:

“Over the course of our partnership with Phoebus Software, the money raised equates to more than500 hours of end of life care and support for our children. We never expected the money raised in 2020 to match the money raised in 2019, and PSL exceeded that amount.

“It has been great to see PSL take such a communitive approach to fundraising, all staff members have been involved in some shape or form, whether it be an extreme physical challenge, fire walks, or raffles. This phenomenal fundraising effort really is significant and will make a monumental difference to the families we support.”

Phoebus Software Limited’s charity committee have set a fundraising target of £10,000 to raise for FareShare this year. So far, over £1,000 has been raised through internal fundraising events such as an online disco event, a charity raffle, a Super Six football predictor and a rugby Six Nations predictor league. All money raised will help frontline charities and community groups supported by FareShare, including homeless shelters, school breakfast clubs and community cafes.

The charity is currently redistributing surplus food, the equivalent of more than 2 million meals, every week to vulnerable people and families across the UK. The footballer and campaigner, Marcus Rashford, is one of FareShare’s Ambassadors.

Phoebus Software Limited’s sales and marketing director Richard Pike says:

“The impact of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is being felt by thousands of frontline charities here in the UK. We recognise the crucial work being done by FareShare to relieve food poverty and ensure two million meals reach the most vulnerable people across the country every week.

“We hope that with our target of £10,000, we will be able to support FareShare as best we can, so that it can continue essential work in supporting frontline charities who have been hit the hardest from a universal decrease in funding due to Covid-19.”

Lindsay Boswell, CEO of FareShare said:

“One in five of the charities we support, say they would have to close if we stopped distributing food to them via the FareShare network. It is down to the determination and generosity of companies like Phoebus Software that we can continue to offer vital support to people experiencing food poverty in the UK.

“By collecting food that would otherwise go to waste and redistributing it through 11,000 charity and community groups we actually provide a social solution to an environmental problem.”

In addition to its local and national fundraising, PSL also supports charities across the world. This year will be the eleventh year it has supported not-for-profit organisation Kiva. Kiva helps alleviate poverty by providing small loans to improve the working or living environment of people in the developing world.
