Local developer Barratt Homes West Midlands has presented Acorns Children’s Hospice with a cheque for more than £44,000, raised following two events in recent months.

The Halesowen based homebuilder raised a total of £21,000 as a result of a sportsman’s dinner, hosted by former footballer and England Manager Kevin Keegan, earlier this year, plus £11,282.65 from a golf day at Redditch Golf Club. The company then matched a further £12,500, bringing the total to £44,762.65.

The funds will be spent on the care and wellbeing of life limited and life threatened babies, children and young people across the Midlands. Acorns operates three hospices in the area, each of which costs around £7,000 a day to run.

Amanda Smallman, Senior Manager, Corporate and Community Fundraising at Acorns, said:

“We are so happy to receive this significant donation. At Acorns, we rely on fundraising and donations from organisations like Barratt Homes for the majority of the income needed to provide our services.

The donation will make a huge difference to people’s lives by helping us provide nursing care for children and young people and vital support for their families.”

Adrian Farr, Managing Director of Barratt Homes West Midlands, said,

“We were delighted to be able to raise this amount for the children in the care of Acorns Children’s Hospice through our golf day and sportman’s dinner, and hope it goes towards helping many local children and their families in need of Acorns’ services.

It’s an important cause which we are glad we could help. It’s our duty as responsible homebuilders to help build communities and not just new homes.”

Barratt Homes is currently offering a selection of quality homes at developments across Hereford and Worcester, including Bishops Fields on Hampton Dene Road in Hereford, Malvern View on Church Road in Redditch, Norton Farm on Birmingham Road in Bromsgrove and coming soon Henbrook Gardens on Westonhall Road in Stoke Prior.
