Dwayne Mckenzie a window cleaner based in South Bucks has called for businesses big and small to get between registered cic Miles for Smiles, which provides private mental health therapy for children 6-18.

Openly admitting that he has had his own battles with mental health as a adult and as a child, Dwayne says that he believes that the Miles for Smiles project will not only help but save children in the Bucks/Berks/London and the other areas where Miles got Smiles are being set up.

Having set up the cic alongside co directors Lauren Brimer, who will over see Miles for Smiles North & Hollie Ryder who helps looks after Miles for Smiles South, the aim is to get therapists working at a reduced rate to give support to children. The project recruits therapists who work at a reduced rate of £20 per session as opposed to £80+ by funds raised to provide private therapy children.

Dwayne continues to say

"I've had parent's contact me who have had children as young as 6 wanting to take their own lifes and with Camhs and other children's support agencies having such a long waiting list. Fortunately we've had a team ready to help and support.

I feel that we need to invest not only to help youngsters but to actually save them".

So far Dwayne and others have taken part in a series of marathon walks to provide funding for the therapy, however despite raising over 15,000 pounds in the space of 18 months he says we need businesses and individuals to start setting up standing orders for this service to continue. With 1 in 6 children suffering, if Miles for Smiles do not raised funds all year through , the fear is they will get to the stage where funds sadly run out.

The team have a set of dedicated volunteers who give a minimum of 1 hour a week of their time every week.

There roles range from recruitment of therapists, to commercial fundraisers, to sports coordinators.

As a small window cleaning company he has pledged to donate the equivalent of 1 customers window clean every single week, which will be between £10/£20.
