A three-man team from Brewin Dolphin’s Plymouth office have raised £1753.15 for Children’s Hospice South West by taking part in the Eddystone Charity Sailing Pursuit. The total raised included £303.72 in prize money for crossing the finishing line in 15th place.

Business Development Manager and experienced sailor Philip Thitchener captained the Brewin Dolphin team in his Beneteau yacht, Bellatrix. He was joined by colleagues Rory Kilbride and James Holt who are both investment managers.

“We started at 10.15 in the morning, a lot later than many of the other 60 boats so we had a big challenge – particularly as the wind was very light and the event director had to shorten the course,” said Philip. “By the time we got to the breakwater we were almost becalmed.

“It took us more than 6 hours to sail 18 miles but, by tacking to and fro amidst the zephyrs, we steadily picked our way through the fleet. Our points were won for sailing, fund-raising, being well organised and promoting our charity Children’s Hospice South West.

“We’re absolutely delighted with what we’ve achieved because of the amount of money we’re able to donate to the CHSW cause. “We’re also very grateful to our company, Brewin Dolphin, for adding £300 to sponsorship money pledged.”

The Eddystone Pursuit is an annual 26-mile offshore race that starts and ends in Plymouth Sound and first took place in 2002. Having raised nearly half a million pounds since then, it is the third largest fundraising event in the South West.
