Simmons & Simmons advises Developing Health & Independence on the East Street Mews project
International law firm, Simmons & Simmons has agreed to provide the South West England charity, Developing Health & Independence (DHI), ongoing pro-bono advice on the ground-breaking redevelopment of East Street Mews in Bristol.
The East Street Mews project is an initiative that brings together a team of local and national businesses, charities and property experts to create vital housing that will transform the lives of young homeless people in Bristol. It is the brainchild of Bristol-based property developer Cubex, property industry charity LandAid and DHI with vital support from Bristol City Council. By pooling expertise, time and experience East Street Mews will create eleven contemporary apartments through the conversion of a disused property in Bedminster, to provide much-needed affordable housing in the city for this vulnerable group of people.
The Simmons & Simmons team will help by providing pro-bono assistance in a range of areas including lease negotiations with Bristol City Council, construction documents and planning advice.
The team will be led by real estate managing associate, Owain Morgan with support from Sam Cundall and other associates from our Bristol office.

Young people in the UK are three times more likely to experience homelessness than the rest of the population and are disproportionally impacted by job insecurity and poverty. A recent study found that 1 in 13 people aged between 16 and 25 in the UK have experienced some form of homelessness within the last five years. It is for this reason The East Street Mews project is so timely and integral.
