Blue Cabbies fight back with new tech
Bristol’s Blue Cabs have received a major boost as they enter the world of mobile apps with the global tech company Gett launching in the city. Bristolians will now be able to order a fully licensed taxi directly from their smartphones and support Bristol’s iconic blue cabs, which up until now were only easily available at taxi ranks.
Blue cabs have faced huge competition in recent years with the introduction of tech to Bristol’s taxi industry. With many residents fearing the future of their beloved blue cabs, Gett is offering a solution for fighting back. Gett will provide users with a simple to use and tech forward option to electronically hail a taxi and get around the city, as well as prebooking from the comfort of their home, office or in a restaurant.
Matteo De Ranzi , CEO of Gett UK said:
“We’re extremely proud to be working with Bristol’s blue cabs and bringing Gett to the city. Bristol has a great supply of top-class licenced taxis who know the area. We want to see the taxi industry thrive in this important city, as well as supporting the local community - including local businesses and students. We’re excited to bring our technology to Bristol and be part of the city’s future growth.”
Gett’s app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, and allows users to hail a taxi for pick up in less than 3 minutes, or pre-book up to 4 weeks in advance. The app also tracks the location of the driver, as well as direct in-app chat support.
In 2018, Gett looks to continue its expansion around the country having established its presence in cities such as London, Manchester and Edinburgh. Across Europe and the US, the app operates in more than 100 cities. In NYC, it’s the fastest growing ride sharing app, and is on-track to become the second-largest player in the market. Gett has raised $640 million in funding and was selected by Forbes as one of the “top 15 explosively growing companies”.
Gett is available to download for free on iOS and Android.
