The Ecology Consultancy, an industry leading ecological consultancy is expanding its regional operations into the Midlands with the opening of a new office in Staffordshire. The launch of the office will provide a base from which The Ecology Consultancy will be able to offer their high-quality ecology consultancy services to clients in the area.

The launch will build upon The Ecology Consultancy’s reputation for providing high-quality technical expertise, pragmatic advice and a wide range of ecological services to the development, planning and construction sectors.

The Ecology Consultancy’s Technical Director Giles Coe said: “Launching into the Midlands expertly positions us to link up our operations with our Norfolk and London offices and provide ecology services across the entire region. The Midlands is set to see plenty of opportunity for development in the coming years with the announcement last year of the government’s long term economic plan for the area. With our new regional presence The Ecology Consultancy will be well placed to service emerging transport infrastructure and housing projects in the region and beyond.”

Leading the establishment of the new office will be Principal Ecologist David Coote, who has joined The Ecology Consultancy from the multi-disciplinary consultancy, RSK. David has 12 years of commercial consultancy experience from previous roles at RSK, Atkins and FPCR and has worked on a variety of large-scale construction and nationally significant infrastructure projects.

David is an experienced ornithologist who is based within the region, bringing with him excellent local knowledge and strong contacts in both industry and conservation circles. David will be recruiting locally but will also able to call on the support of the wider company’s expertise and local associates in getting boots on the ground for more labour intensive works.

The Midlands office will provide all the necessary ecology services that are required for successful planning applications, with specialist experience in ecological assessment, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, and BREEAM ecology. Project experience also covers the management of large and small scale survey programmes including a variety of protected species surveys, such as bats, birds, badgers, water voles and great crested newts and the subsequent design and implementation of wildlife mitigation measures in order facilitate construction.

The Ecology Consultancy will also bring specific support to design and architecture teams in the region with the provision of expert advice on green infrastructure planning, including the design and specification of green roofs, green walls, rain gardens, and sustainable urban drainage systems, all of which help to deliver quality of life and ecosystem benefits to development projects.

The launch of the new Midlands officeis part of the regional growth plan for The Ecology Consultancy and its sister company Temple – all part of the Group’s 2020 strategy announced last year.
