More than 300 staff from PwC in the Midlands have volunteered their time for local community projects in support of the firm’s UK-wide charity day.

PwC’s One Firm One Day, which took place on Friday 20th May, is a dedicated volunteering day that takes place every year. It gives staff the opportunity to take part in a range of activities to support their local communities and raise funds for the PwC Foundation, a registered charity set up to promote social inclusion and sustainable development in the UK.

In the West Midlands, approximately 160 of PwC staff volunteered for a wide range of activities, including:

A team of 65 volunteers went to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, working with The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), to help with general gardening work, maintenance of the hospital’s food growing area and they built a rain water collector.

Around 40 volunteers went to Brueton Park in Solihull to help with path maintenance, weed control, creating wild animal homes and boardwalk construction.

A team of 10 helped students at Heartlands Academy in Birmingham to run their own business for a day.

Around 20 volunteers spent the day helping Groundwork West Midlands, leading environmental regeneration charity, with step building and repair, chain fence removal, clearing and small tree felling and planting wildflowers to encourage wildlife at Saltwells Nature Reserve.

Close to 30 people went to Charterhouse Priory in Coventry to carry out general gardening tasks including clearing large areas of overgrowth, hedge-trimming and re-establishing verges.

Across the Midlands region, a further five employees took part in a Dementia Friends session, an Alzheimer’s Society Initiative to help people to understand a bit more about dementia and the little ways in which they can help people living with the condition.

Matt Hammond, regional chairman at PwC in the Midlands, said:

“Working with the communities around our offices in the Midlands has been part of our culture for many years. It’s an integral part of being a responsible business and creates value for our communities and for us.

“My colleagues in the Midlands are very proud of the great work so many did on One Firm One Day. Many of our people give of their time and expertise already but marshalling a collective approach to giving something back to society is a fantastic way for PwC to also engage with teams from a variety of local organisations carrying out a vital role for the community they serve.”
